In tropical regions, a wide variety of plants grow under ecologically diverse environments ranging from arid to humid climates. The adaptive responses of these plants to such tropical environments are being studied physiologically and ecologically, with a goal of contributing to stable crop production in tropical agriculture and the conservation of tropical environments. In addition, utilizing useful genes in these plants, recombinant DNA technology is being tried to improve crop productivity and environmental stress tolerance.
