The cells compose their signaling system based on their genome to respond to the changes in the surroundings. In other words, the activities of the organisms are controlled both by the genetic information and environment inputs: the former has hormones and growth factors and the latter includes cellular stresses and nutritional conditions. These stimuli induce the protein phosphorylation reaction of the various proteins to regulate the cellular functions. It is well known that the aberrant protein phosphorylation is related to human diseases such as cancer and diabetes. We are thus studying the regulation of cellular responses by focusing the phosphorylation of the cellular proteins to clarify a novel signaling mechanism in health and disease. Practically, human cell lines and yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) are employed to elucidate the regulatory system that is common among the eukaryotes.
