Young Scientists’ Network for Preservation and Pest Management of Agrobioresources in Southeast Asia to Avoid the Food Crisis

The Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Kobe University, conducts integrated education and research on “Food, Environment, and Health/Life”. The area of East Asia and Southeast Asia is not only one of the biggest sources of food in the world, but also contains many kinds of agrobioresources. The target area, Southeast Asian countries, share the similar climate and rice cultivation cycles. With the development of the economy and food market in Asian countries, we face various issues relating to food, environment, and health. These issues cannot be solved without an effective collaboration among the countries in Southeast and East Asia.

This program “Young Scientists’ Network for Preservation and Pest Management of Agrobioresources in Southeast Asia to Avoid the Food Crisis” conducted by the graduate school will focus on the issues on preservation of agrobioresources and the pest management in Southeast Asia, and encourage the young researchers to build up a novel network among the researchers. We will provide the opportunity for the young researchers in our partner universities/institutes in Vietnam, Philippines, and Thailand to study in Kobe University for 30 days in 2010. Lectures concerning “Conservation of and Pest Management in Agrobioresources” will be provided in English, and they will conduct small research work in one of the laboratories of the Graduate School of Agricultural Science under the supervision of the professors.
