In this research field, we conduct empirical studies using domestic and international surveys, as well as statistical data, on food systems, consumer behavior, nutrient intake and lifestyle, dietary behavior and awareness among children and the elderly, food security in impoverished households, and rural development. We also conduct educational research in economics and data processing/analysis methods. Currently, our research primarily focuses on the following themes:

1) Advancing empirical economic research on a wide range of themes in developing countries, including poverty and inequality, food security, women's empowerment, migrant labor, and child health and development. (Ishida)

2) Conducting surveys and analyses on food awareness, eating behaviors, and meal satisfaction among parents and children in low-income households in Japan. (Ishida)

3) Investigating and analyzing the resource utilization of food waste and its application in urban agriculture from a social psychology perspective, focusing on urban areas in Japan and developing countries. (Ishida)

4) Conducting socioeconomic experiments in collaboration with diverse stakeholders to promote ethical consumption (markets, mass retailers, co-ops, etc.). (Yagi)

5) Investigating and analyzing issues related to branding diverse local agricultural products, developing sales channels, and promoting local production for local consumption from a food system perspective. (Yagi)

6) Conducting corporate research focusing on Japanese trading companies and the food industry, examining changes in the grain food system from the Americas to Japan to contribute to Japanese food security. (Yagi)
